Who We Are

412 Theater Thoughts is an independently-run media outlet where our writers have a deep love of the arts.
Founded by Daryl- that's me. I have lived in Pittsburgh most of my life and I have become highly immersed in the scene of attending community theater (and otherwise Pittsburgh local) productions. I have multiple musical theater degrees from varying cities as well as multiple decades of educated background in web-writing.
As I attended more and more local shows, I've found myself in awe of some of the exceptional local talent Pittsburgh has to offer and, many times, wished I had a way to let them know how incredibly special their gifts are.

With that being said, I stepped away from the option of working with a newspaper on this and decided to create my own theater review blog with a skilled creative team without the frills that come with working for a larger company. Just straight to the point reviews and marketing. I have elected to omit writers personal information so the focus can be on the reviews on a neutral plane. All parties are on board with the anonymity as this is solely about giving credit where credit is due, and my writers understand that goal. My writers come with heavy credentials; most having Theater degrees and/or journalism & web-publishing degrees, but all with a deep love and appreciation for the stage.

This is a more informal style of reviewing. None of my writers are expected to adhere to "typical" writing guidelines that you might see in other reviewers work. They write exactly how they feel, run it by me for the green light, and it goes live.

Our goal is not to critique performances. Of course, there are things our writers are not going to like in every show. I have asked them to omit that information as much as possible, if not entirely. We simply want to let the performers know our thoughts on what we did like.
There are many times our writers can't attend until a second weekend or even a closing show, so obviously we are not able to always advertise the show in our reviews and tell others to see it in time. However, we will always do so if possible, and always advertise the theaters next show, or a performers next show at another theater, if its public information.

I want to use this opportunity to give recognition to the performers and tech staff who deserve it, and give my honest, yet positive, thoughts on some of Pittsburgh's fantastic and hard-worked productions.

Support your local theater, and enjoy.
